Travel from Lisbon to Castelo de Vide in the Alentejo area.
City tour of Castelo de Vide to include the Jewish quarter and Synagogue.
Here you will learn about the local Jewish history and culture.
Continue our visit to the Castle on the top of the hill, where we can see some Jewish architecture houses.

We continue our tour to Marvão, a significant place regarding Portuguese Jewish history. Here we will visit the bridge that Jews crossed from Spain to Portugal in 1492, escaping from the Spanish Inquisition. After, we climb to the top of the hill to visit the Medieval village of Marvão.
Cabeço de Vide is a small town that was a vital Jewish community in the XIV century. Here we have some interesting local architecture.

Today we travel to Marvão, a very ancient town steeped in history. Here we walk through the historic center, including the Jewish quarter. Visit the Gotic Jewish quarter on Valencia de Alcantara.

If you must cancel your trip, penalties may apply based on the total trip price.

Before you enter into a contract with us, we reserve the right to change any of the facilities or services described in our brochure or website. We also reserve the right to cancel the booking do to weather and/or other conditions. Any changes are usually very minor and we will advise you at the earliest possible date. If a major change, such as change in departure time, becomes necessary, we will inform you as soon as reasonably possible your tours begins. When a major change or cancellation occurs you will have the choice of accepting the change of arrangements, purchasing another available tour from us, or cancelling your tour. If booking is cancelled we will refund all payments made directly to us in respect of the tour price. We will not refund any personal expenses you may have incurred as a result of your booking such as flight payments for land-only tours, travel insurance, equipment purchases, visas, vaccinations etc.
We’ll begin our journey in Castelo de Vide, a town known for its well-preserved Jewish quarter. You’ll explore the narrow streets and discover hidden synagogues.
We’ll learn about the town’s history as a refuge for Jewish people during times of persecution. You’ll hear stories of resilience and faith that have been passed down through generations. Castelo de Vide is a place where you can feel the presence of the past on your Alentejo Jewish Tour.
Next, we’ll journey to Portalegre and Marvão, two medieval towns with significant Jewish influence. You’ll explore Portalegre, learning about its historical Jewish community and its role in trade and commerce.
We’ll then travel to Marvão, a hilltop village with stunning views and a rich history. You’ll learn about the strategic importance of these towns and the contributions of Jewish people to their development.
We will also explore the border town of Valencia de Alcantara, just across the border in Spain, and learn about the interconnectedness of these communities. These towns offer a glimpse into the medieval world and the Jewish presence within it on your Alentejo Jewish Tour.
